Carcassonne - Tale as Old as Time

When I first heard of Carcassonne as a beautiful medieval fortress, I was expecting to see a "small provincial town" right out of Disney (I know right!). Think cobbled stones, fountains, creeping ivy, singing birds and lovely flowers.

With great expectations comes great disappointment. This place was full of shit (literally, birdshit) and was swarmed packed with tourists  .

Nonetheless, Carcassonne retains her old charm. A visit once is sufficient.

First sighting of the fortress. So hot the weather!

There was many parts of the fortress like this. For the first few steps, I was like wow, this was the same spot where soldiers fought and defended their home, wow, this was where archers fired their arrows and soldiers poured down scorching oil to enemies scaling the wall. But after a while, I just got bored.

I got a little spaced out after 2 hours of walking around the fortress grounds (nearly
tripped on the uneven ground) but it was good exercise.

Glad to have came with great company.

Accommodation

1. Notre Dame DeL'abbaye 103 Rue Trivalle Carcassonne, 11000 France, 18 euro/bed/night in 4 bed mixed room

Review: Can be quite scary if you go alone in off-peak seasons as the site is pretty old. That being said, the place is beautiful!

Food

1. Auberge de DameCarcas, 3 place du Chateau | Cite de
Carcassonne , 11000, Carcassonne, France

Review: Don’t go. Paid 26 euro for a suckling pig set. Chinese style of suckling pig beats this hands down.

Some fois gras thing. Tastes average. Thankful that it didn't come in pate.

Suckling Pig - not what I expected

2.  Le Trouvere, 1, place Marcou | La Cité, 11000 Carcassonne, France

Review:  Decent. Sticking to the safe duck Confit and Profiteroles set which was good. Hard to screw these up.
